2008 Yuma Hamfest
February 15-16, 2008

Prize Winners

Grand Prize Winners:

First Prize: Kenwood TS-2000 Transceiver
Winner: Rand Lutman (K7HRA & VE7HRA), Poulsbo, Washington & Delta, BC

Rand Lutman, who holds amateur radio licenses in both the United States and Canada, was the very excited winner of the Kenwood TS-2000 base station. Rand is shown on the right, receiving the grand prize from 2008 Hamfest Director Richard Palaszynski. Rand has been coming to the Yuma Hamfest since our first year in 2005, and buying those raffle tickets finally paid off big time! After the winning callsign and name was announced following our BBQ dinner, Rand let out a whoop and walked quickly to the front stage pumping his fists in the air. We think he was a pretty excited winner. According to his QRZ bio, Rand already has a Yaesu FT-920 and a Yaesu FT-857D for mobile operation. Rand will be adding a Kenwood TS-2000 to that mix. Look him up on QRZ and email him, asking him how he likes the new rig.

Second Prize: Yaesu FT-857D All-Band Mobile Radio
Winner: Linda Faulkner (N0LFF), Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Linda Faulkner (right, accepting the prize from 2008 hamfest director Richard Palaszynski). The prize included a head separation kit for remote mounting of the radio. Linda and her husband Jim were first time visitors of the Yuma Hamfest, but are already planning to return next year. Linda just got her tech license three months ago, but Jim has already found a spot to mount the radio in Linda's car and is urging her to upgrade to General class.

Third Prize: Kenwood TM-D710A APRS-Compatible Mobile Radio
Winner: Rita Ham (W0RHZ), Yuma, Arizona

Rita Ham, right, accepting the prize from 2008 Yuma Hamfest volunteer Roger Hunt. Rita was traveling in California with her husband John when they received word she had won the Kenwood mobile radio. The Ham's (and yes their name really is Ham) own property here in Yuma but live full time in their motor coach and spend a lot of time on the road. We held the radio for Rita until they returned to Yuma in early March. John and Rita already have a Kenwood TM-D700, so they were both really excited about this prize.

Registration Drawing Prize: Vector Jump Start Battery System
Winner: Betty Cilk (N7RQN), Yuma, Arizona

Betty Cilk is one of our own and helped all day at the Yuma Hamfest. However, she had to leave early and was not in attendance at the BBQ dinner when we drew her name for the free registrtation prize. This prize was awarded to the lucky recipent just for registering for the event.

Other Prize Winners:

On Saturday, the main day of the hamfest, there were drawings every hour throughout the day, which were announced over the loudspeaker system at the Yuma County Fairgrounds. Those winners had to be present to win. On Saturday night, following the Buzzard Barbeque, 37 more small prizes were given away as the result of just attending the Yuma Hamfest barbeque. Some of the winners appear below:
